Being calm is underrated! The question is, what does calm even mean? According to me, calm is a feeling that describes the serene state someone chooses to put himself or herself. In other words, being in a calm state is when, you are relaxed, and not showing too much tension in your facial expression and body movement. Why did I start by saying, “Being Calm is underrated”, most people take staying calm for granted and I will tell you the importance of staying calm.
First, when you are not calm, you are likely to make uninformed decisions that you may later live to regret; regret is the last feeling you want to feel. Being calm in this case helps you to make informed decisions that you probably take gradually without rushing into anything.
Being calm enables you to think logically and gives you the time and space to clear your mind. More so, being calm helps you get a more relaxed and free mind to say no to the tension at that particular time; giving you more time to think logically and come up with a solution to a particular problem.
Scientifically, staying calm and relaxed is a good way to reserve your energy because when depressed and stressed the body excretes adrenaline and cortisol; the hormones that are responsible for giving the body the energy boost it needs. However, these same hormones make it harder for the body to go into a state of sleep so in the end, the energy is not worth reserving. In other words, being calm and relaxed causes the body to release the endorphins hormones that help enhance and lighten your mood to a happier one.
When you are calm, you tend to be in control of your life and thoughts at that particular moment and from there on. Being able to control your thoughts is the best feeling someone could ever get, try being calm and you will feel relieved and you get that feeling that everything will be fine and the thought of “I can handle it”. Life is easy with ourselves in a calm state.
There are so many ways how to stay calm but I will hit on a few ways
In so many situations, taking a few deep breaths is usually the first thing anyone under pressure or depression can opt to do. Counting to a particular number for example from 1 to 5 or from 1 to 10 and so on; is the other way bring some to calmness.
Eating well is another recommended thing to do when depression and stress kick in; for most people, eating becomes an option and they lose appetite, which may lead to more trouble and cause ulcers. To other people eating is their best shot when in a state of depression; either way, eating well is another way one can stay calm.
Taking a cup of tea is probably underrated but it sometimes saves you the worries and racing minds. So many beverages can also help with tension and anxiety together with tea examples are;
The above can at least be a relief, a shoulder to lean on when feeling tense, and stressed.
The best way to stay calm is most likely to let go of whatever it is that may be troubling you at that particular time; this way you get more time to think of a more approachable solution to the problem.
In conclusion, being calm is the most important thing because all decision-making lies in the hands of the word “Calm”.
